As Windows Server 2012 has been out for some time and generally available, upgrade paths to Windows 8 and Server 2012 has been officially announced.
The following table summarizes the upgrade paths, but I would like to tell a few rules :
- Upgrades from Server Core to Full Edition and Full Edition to Server Core are not available.Even the official blog post says you need the latest service packs, it is not required, for example you can upgrade from Windows Server 2008 sp1 to Server 2012.There is no Web Server and Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2012, instead Standard Edition supports most of their features such as Clustering.
